Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University was built up as a State University vide U.P. State Government warning no. (10)/(865)/15/(75)(85)/64 dated 23 November 1973.

The University has in this manner been moved up to Central University by an Act of Parliament i.e. the Central Universities Act 2009. The University has hence been endowed with new duties to guide its understudies, personnel and every single other partner to accomplish incredibleness in scholastics and make progress toward all round improvement of understudies.

The University, settled in the lap of Himalayan ranges in the Garhwal district of Uttarakhand, is a private cum affiliating establishment of higher learning. It has jurisdication more than seven regions of Garhwal area of Uttarakhand.

The University has three Campuses indirectly situated from each other -

Birla Campus, Srinagar Garhwal with its expansion at Chauras Campus,

B. Gopal Reddy (BGR) Campus, Pauri

Swami Ram Teerth (SRT) Campus, Badshahithaul, Tehri.

In each of the three grounds of the University the undergrad, post-graduate and research projects are being offered in various orders. Plus, traditional courses under various surges of studies the Univesity has presented some provincially pertinent courses that are of significance for the district inparticularandmountains by and large.
