Dr. Soumya Swaminathan, MD, has taken over as Director General, ICMR & Secretary, Department of Health Research (Ministry of Health & Family Welfare) on 17th August, 2015 and she brings with her vast experience in health research as well as research administration. Prior to this assignment, Dr. Swaminathan was earlier the Director, National Institute for Research in Tuberculosis (NIRT) in Chennai since 2012.
