Engineering Services Examination ESE Exam is a combined competitive examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for recruitment to the services or posts of Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering.

UPSC ESE Selection criteria-

Selection process will be done in three stages

(i) Preliminary Test
(ii) Mains Test
(iii) Personality Test

I. Written Examination:

The Engineering Services (Preliminary/ Stage-I) Examination will consist of two objective type (multiple choices) questions papers

Exam carrying a maximum of 500 marks (Paper 1 – 200 Marks & Paper II – 300 Marks).

Only those candidates who are declared by the Commission to have qualified in the Preliminary/ Stage-I Examination in the year will be eligible for admission to the Mains/ Stage-II Examination

The Engineering Services (Main/stage-II) Examination will consist two conventional type papers in Engineering Discipline specific with duration of three hours and maximum marks of 600 (300 Marks in each paper).

II. Personality Test:

Stage-III Personality test carrying a maximum of 200 marks of such of the candidates who qualify on the basis of the written examination.
