The Fellow Programme in Management (FPM) is the doctoral programme of the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. The objective of the programme is to provide students with necessary skills to identify and research complex issues in the field of management.

Candidates must possess one of the following qualifications to apply for IIMA’s Doctoral Programme:

a)
A Masters Degree in any regulation, with at least 55% marks, with a Bachelors degree/ equivalent qualification with at-least 50 percent marks obtained after a minimum of three years of education after completing higher secondary schooling (10+2) or equivalent.

b)
5 year/4 year Integrated Masters Degree programme in any discipline, with atleast 55 % marks, obtained after completing higher secondary schooling (10+2) or equivalent

(OR)

c)
A professional qualification like CA, ICWA, CS, with at least 55% marks.

d)
A 4-year/8-semester Graduation degree with at least 60 percent marks or equivalent grade point average.

The programme consists of 3 stages:
1. Course Work
2. Comprehensive Exam
3. Thesis

The course work is spread across a minimum of 5 terms. All FPM students, irrespective of their areas of speciality, take a set of compulsory courses in their field of specialization and other interest areas.

Upon conclusion of the course work, the students take the Area Comprehensive Examination (ACE). The ACE tests whether the student has obtained a satisfactory level of knowledge in his/her field of specialization and whether he/she has satisfactorily integrated the various courses taken in the area.

If and only if a student qualifies in the comprehensive examination, he/she enters the Thesis stage. The thesis stage includes of developing a thesis proposal, for which the student identifies a thesis topic, forms a Thesis Advisory Committee [TAC], presents a tutorial on the thesis proposal to the IIMA academic community.
