The Ph D (Integrated) program offered Indian Institute of Science (IISc) consists of flexible course work, an internship-type laboratory training, a research project to demonstrate attainment of a high degree of scientific ability followed by advanced research leading to a Ph D thesis on a specific topic.

Eligibility

One with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology/Biotechnology/ Chemistry/ Physics/ Mathematics/ Pharmacy/ Veterinary Sciences/ Agriculture as applicable to individual discipline, under the 10+2+3/4 system, is eligible to apply.

One with BE/ B Tech degree and qualify in Mathematics/ Mathematical Statistics paper in JAM are eligible to apply to the Mathematical Sciences discipline.

One with BE/ B Tech degree and qualify in Biotechnology paper in JAM is also eligible.

One who seek admission to the Ph D (Integrated) programmes at IISc should qualify in JAM and must submit the IISc online application.

One who are taking Biological Science (BL) or Biotechnology (BT) paper in JAM and seek admission to the Ph D (Integrated) programme in Biological Sciences at IISc need not fill IISc online application as the selection is only through JAM.

One who have cleared JEST and seek admission to the Ph D (Integrated) programme in Physical Sciences are also eligible.


Additional Requirements

(a) The minimum requirement for admission to the Integrated Ph D program is a first class or equivalent Grade in the Bachelor’s degree as indicated against each department.

(b) The minimum requirement of First Class in the qualifying exam is relaxed to pass class for SC/ST candidates.

(c) Some departments have specific requirements of subjects at the Bachelor’s or 10+2 levels. One has to ensure that they meet these requirements.

(d) Those in the final year of the qualifying exam and awaiting results are also eligible to apply. However, they should have completed all the requirements for the award of the qualifying degree, including all examinations, dissertation projects, viva-voce, etc.
