IIST is provides facility of education through its physics department. The Physics Department at IIST has twelve faculty members and eleven Ph.D. students.

IIST have a Ph.D. programme in various areas of experimental and theoretical physics and two master’s programmes in Optical Engineering and Solid State Technology.

The department offers several courses that constitute the core of the B.Tech. Physical Sciences programme.
