Re: IIT Bombay Waste Management
The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay is a public engineering institution located in Powai, Mumbai, India. IIT Bombay was founded in 1958. In 1961, the Parliament decreed IITs as Institutes of National Importance About IIT Bombay Waste Management project: Municipal solid waste (MSW) is a major concern worldwide and in developing countries like India the problem is much bigger due to the low priority given to waste sector and lack of awareness. The project aims to formulate a proposal to assist insignificant waste diversion from landfills in metro-cities like Mumbai. As a first step, the inventory of solid waste management and characterisation would be performed in IIT Bombay campus About E Waste: E-waste or electronic waste consists of batteries, computer parts, wires, electrical equipment of any kind, electrical and electronic toys, remotes, watches, cellphones, as well as bulbs, tubelights and CFLs. Store them in separate container which is kept closed, away from moisture and in which nothing else is put. Sub Research areas Anaerobic digestion of municipal solid waste in high solid (dry) system Analysis of energy recovery options from municipal solid waste in India Assessment of MSW based biogas plants in India Carbon Capture and Storage Chemical Looping Combustion Development of Eco-friendly and Value-added Construction Materials Aimed at Innovative Reuse of Solid Wastes Energy recovery from solid recovered fuel (derived from MSW) and sludge generated from sewage treatment plants and industries Environmental nanotechnology Fluidized bed combustion Greenhouse Gas Mitigation Hazardous waste minimization and pollution prevention Hazardous Waste Treatment and Disposal Hazardous, municipal & biomedical waste management Landfill Mining of legacy waste Life cycle analysis of plastic waste and alternative materials Life Cycle Assessment and Decision-Making Management of construction and demolition waste Mechanical biological treatment of municipal solid waste (MSW) MSW characterization and segregation options Resource recovery from wastewater treatment systems in India Solid Waste Management Treatment of leachate (generated from Municipal solid waste landfill) using physico-chemical processes Waste to Energy Water-Energy Nexus Contact: Head of Department Environmental Science & Engineering Department (ESED) Indian Institute of Technology Bombay Powai, Mumbai 400 076 (Maharashtra), India Email: office.cese@iitb.ac.in Phone: +91-022-25767851 +91-022-25767852 |
