The Indian Institute of Technology Madras is a public engineering and research institute located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. It is one of India's most prestigious institutes. It was established in 1959.

It is recognised as an Institute of National Importance by the Government of India.

Rapid Prototyping Laboratory

Rapid Prototyping Laboratory was conceived as a prototyping facility for the Department of Engineering Design. It was established in the year 2008.

The facility is extensively used by students and faculty across the department as well as IIT Madras, academic institutions and industries out side IIT Madras.
