The vision of IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) Jodhpur is to prepare needed technical human resources to meet the technology challenges of the nation.

Ph.D. Programs


The Institute offers a Ph.D. Program with specialisation in the following disciplines:
1. Computer Science & Engineering,
2. Electrical Engineering,
3. Mechanical Engineering,
4. Biology,
5. Chemistry,
6. Mathematics,
7. Physics, and
8. Humanities & Social Sciences.

During 2010-14, the Institute had admitted students to Ph.D. Program with the following specialisations:
1. Energy,
2. Information and Communication Technology
3. System Science, and
4. Biologically Inspired System Science.


Eligibility for Admission

The eligibility criteria prescribed in this section are at least the minimum. The Admissions Committee may prescribe requirements over and above these.

(a) Engineering Discipline
(1) One with Master degree in Engineering namely M. Tech, M. E., M. Sc. (Engineering) or MS by Research with minimum 60% marks or minimum 6.5/10 Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) or Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA). Such students are required to have minimum 60% marks or 6.5/10 CPI or CGPA in Bachelor degree.
(2) One with Master degree in Sciences with minimum 70% marks or minimum 7.0/10 CPI or CGPA with a valid GATE, CSIR, UGC or NBHM score card. One needs to have 70% marks or 7.0/10 CPI or CGPA in Bachelor degree.
(3) (a) a B. Tech, B.E. or B.Sc. (Engineering) degree with minimum 80% marks or minimum 8/10 CPI or CGPA and a valid GATE score, and
(b) a B. Tech. degree from any of the IITs with minimum 8/10 CPI or CGPA with a valid GATE Score Card.

(b) Science Discipline
(1) Master degree in Sciences with minimum 60% marks or minimum 6.5/10 CPI or CGPA with a valid GATE, CSIR, UGC score card or equivalent. One needs to have minimum 60% marks or 6.5/10 CPI or CGPA in Bachelor’s degree. One holding Master degree in Engineering also is eligible to apply for PhD Programme in Sciences with minimum 70% marks or 7/10 CPI or CGPA. Again, one needs to have at least 70% marks or 7/10 CPI or CGPA in both the Bachelor and Master degree.
(2) One holding only Bachelor degree in Engineering with
(a) B. Tech, B.E. or B.Sc.(Engineering) degree with minimum 80% marks or 8/10 CPI or CGPA and a valid GATE score card
(b) B. Tech. degree from any of the IITs with minimum 8/10 CPI or CGPA or a valid GATE score card.

(c) Humanities and Social Sciences Discipline
(1) Master degree in Humanities, Social Sciences, Sciences, Engineering or allied areas with minimum 55% marks or 6.0/10 CPI or CGPA with a valid GATE, UGC or CSIR score.
(2) One holding only Bachelor degree in Engineering with
(a) B Tech, B.E. or B.Sc. (Engineering) degree with minimum 80% marks or 8/10 CPI or CGPA and a valid GATE score card; and
(b) B. Tech. degree from any of the IITs with minimum 8/10 CPI or CGPA or a valid GATE score card.
