Society of Automotive Engineers IIT Roorkee collegiate chapter was established in March 2000.

IIT Roorkee Motorsports is the Formula SAE team of IIT Roorkee dedicated towards designing and development of pure Electric Formula style race cars.

Innovations:
Wireless Remote Control: The wheelchair is controlled by wireless remote controller.
Caster Wheel Suspension: Perfectly engineered suspensions in rear caster wheels.
Adjustable Height with the help of a jack mounted below the seat. This feature is required for a student in classrooms and labs.
Foldability and portability: The motors and batteries can be detatched and the wheelchair can be folded and packed in a casing for transportation.

Special Features:
Multipurpose Foldable mini-table in front.
Adjustable Reclining backrest.
Rotating armrest for quick shifting of person from Wheelchair to bed.
Customized controller to suit the ease of operator.
Switch to detach Motor from wheels and convert it to simple wheelchair.

2013-14
SAE Chapter IIT Roorkee aspires to conduct the following activities in the academic year 2013-14
Industrial Trip to industries near the campus.
Guest Lectures given by the experts in the areas significantly influencing the shape of the automobile industry.
Trip to the 12th Auto Expo which is to be held in Greater Noida in the year 2014.
Workshops on topics like CAD, I.C. Engines and many more.

2012-13
PowerDrift, a small wireless remote controlled IC engine driven car making competition was organized for the third time in Cognizance ‘13, the annual technical festival of IIT Roorkee; with an overwhelming participation from colleges all over India.This event was the heart of Cognizance and had maximum prize money of RS 50,000 among all the events.
SAE Chapter IIT Roorkee organised lectures on a variety of topics relating to the governing dynamics of automobiles.
Many on the spot quizzes, competitions, workshops(IC Engine workshop), Guest Lectures were organised thought the year.

2011-12

Trip to 11th Auto Expo was organized in the month of January 2012 with more than 150 people experiencing an educational & fun-filled experience of a lifetime.
Other Activities like several on the spot competitions, quizzes, crosswords, guest lectures & workshops like IC Engine workshop were organised throughout the year.
