The Institute of Rail Transport [IRT] was incorporated in 1964,with its headquarters in New Delhi

The Institute conducts the following Four (4) Diploma Courses:

Distance Education Courses-

i ) Rail Transport And Management

The Course is of immense benefits to students, railway men and professionals.

The lessons of the course have been prepared in easy language, which can be understood even by the persons who have no previous knowledge of railway working.

The duration of the course is one year from May - June every year.

The Course consists of the following eight modules:

Overview of the Transport Sector

Rail Operations Management

Marketing & Commercial Policy

Logistics & Supply Chain Management

Costing & Pricing of Rail Transport Services

Human Resource Management in Indian Railway

Legal &Technical Aspects of Railway Functioning

Planning, Financial Management & Investment Policies

All the lessons are printed in Hindi and English and sent to the candidates by post.

ii ) Transport Economics & Management

The one year correspondence diploma course in Transport Economics & Management is likely to benefit fresh graduates from Universities desiring specialization in Transport Economics & Management and seeking employment opportunities in the related fields and those who are already working in any of the Organizations/Ministries dealing with Transport and desiring to upgrade their knowledge etc., to improve their prospectus in their respective Ministries and Enterprises.

The present fees for the course including the examination fee is Rs. 5000/-

The duration of the course is one year, from January - February every year.

The Course consists of the following seven modules:

Transportation - Issues in Microeconomics
Transportation - Issues in Macroeconomics
Organisation and Legal Aspects of Transport Modes
Financing and Investment Policy in Transport
Cost Benefit Analysis
Inter Modal Coordination

iii ) Multi-Modal Transport (Containerization) & Logistics Management

This one year correspondence diploma course is likely to benefit fresh graduates from Universities desiring specialization in this subject

The duration of the course is one year, from March - April every year.
