| Re: International Co Operative Alliance Regional Office Asia Pacific
The International Co operative alliance is an independent non governmental organization which unites represents and serves co operative’s world wide. It is considered as one of the largest non governmental organization in the world. ICA members are from all sectors including agriculture, banking, fisheries, and health, housing, industry, insurance, tourism and consumer co operatives. It has 249 member organizations from 94 countries. From 1948 the setting up of a regional office and education center International Co operative Alliance in Asia Pacific region was taken into consideration in 1960. The regional office and education center was opened on November 14th 1960 by first Prime Minister of free India Shri Jawaharlal Nehru. After this the regional offices and educational centers were opened in Africa, Latin America and Europe. In the beginning stage the Regional Office and educational Center functioned as separate organizations. The Regional Office functioned under Regional Officer and Educational Center under the Director. In 1963 both the organizations merged and functioned as one institute named International Co operative Alliance Regional Office and Educational Center. The Regional Officer was provided with the full charge of Institution and the position of the Director was changed to Regional Director in 1970. There is a governing body for the smooth functioning of organization. It consists of regional authority that includes Regional Assembly, Regional Board, Regional Director and several sect oral and thematic Committees. For smooth functioning of ICA member organizations in the regional level and discussion of regional issues regional assemblies were formed. The regional assembly is the highest policy body in the region to promote collaboration among the ICA member organization at the regional level. This helps a lot to guide the on its program of activities and can make recommendations to submit proposal and resolution for considering the General Assembly. The regional assembly elects a chair person for a period of 4 year and that person will be the nominee from the region to the ICA Board for the position of Vice President. The assembly constitutes a regional board elected by the general assembly to foresee the working and activities of the ICA Regional Office. The chairperson of the Regional Assembly will be the chairperson of the Regional Board. There will be sector specified committees proposed for taking the keen interest of the sector. The office bearers will be selected by the committee for a period of 2 year. Here is the list of committees that are functioning presently. • ICA Committee on Agriculture for Asia and the Pacific • ICA Committee on Human Resource Development and Research for Asia and the Pacific • ICA Committee on Consumer Co operation for Asia and the Pacific • ICA Consumer Sub committee on University/College Co operatives for Asia and the Pacific • ICA Regional Womens Committee for Asia and Pacific • ICA Committee on Fisheries for Asia and the Pacific • Regional Co operative Banking Association for Asia and the Pacific • ICA committee on Co operative Housing for Asia and the Pacific • Asia - Pacific Health Co Operative Organization (APHCO) The Regional Office for Asia and Pacific is located in New Delhi in India. For the promotion of inter co operative trade in the region a business office has been set up in Singapore  Functions of Regional Office Mains functions of International Co operative Alliance in Aia and the Pacific is as follows. Concept paper of the Program for the complete details about the conecpt programme i am attaching a PDF file with it .. • ICA/Japan Training course on capacity building on marketing for agricultural co operatives was held on 12th April 2012 to 21st April 2012 in Beijing. • Workshop on developments of consumer co operatives was held in Sri Lanka on 24th May 2012. • ICA/JCCU training program for managers of consumer co operatives 2012 from 20th July 2012 to 5th August 2012 • The ICA Asia & Pacific Regional Assembly happens once in 2 year is going to take place in Japan from 26th November 2012 to 30th November 2012. The venue is Kobe International Conference Center. The registration and hotel reservation can be done till 24th October 2012. The Japan Joint Committee of Cooperatives and secretariat of ICA AP Regional Assembly will prepare the documents required for visa application and the visas will be provided on group basis only.
