Kannur University was set up in 1996 to give improvement of advanced education in Kasaragod, Kannur, and Wayanad areas of Kerala, India. It was built up after the death of Act No. 22 of 1996 of the Kerala Legislative Assembly. A college by the name of "Malabar University" had appeared significantly prior by the death of a mandate by the Governor of Kerala, on 9 November 1995.

Kannur University was initiated on 2 March 1996 by E.K.Nayanar, at that point Hon. Boss Minister of Kerala. Dr.P.K.Rajan was the principal Vice-Chancellor. The target of the Kannur University Act, 1996 was to set up in the territory of Kerala an instructing, private and affiliating college to accommodate the improvement of advanced education in Kasargod and Kannur income Districts and the Mananthavady Taluk of Wayanad District.

Kannur University is a multi-grounds college, at Kannur, Kasargod, Mananthavady, Payyannur, Thalassery, and Kanhangad.

National Seminar on Mathematics at Kannur University

The Kannur University Department of Mathematical Science will compose two national courses amid June 9-11 2010.

An official statement issued by the division here on Friday said the courses were being sorted out as a major aspect of the yearly gathering of the Kerala Mathematical Association (KMA), which, since its beginning in 1962, had been serving the numerical group by directing classes, workshops and preparing programs as likewise distributing an exploration diary.

The workshop on 'New vistas in fluffy arithmetic and its applications' future introduced by Pro Vice-Chancellor A.P. Kuttykrishnan on June 9. Another class on 'Indian custom in Mathematics' supported by the Indian Council of Historical Research, Indian Council for Social Science Research and the UGC would be led on June 11 2010. It would be introduced by college Vice-Chancellor Michael P. Tharakan.
