The Department of Orthopedic Surgery is a branch of the Dept of Surgery, established in Oct, 1951. Prof BN Sinha, the organizer and father of Orthopedic Surgery in India was the principal Head of the Department. From a starting with a solitary bed unit in the Dept of Surgery giving, OPD administrations from a little room and mortars connected on the open patio, the Dept has prospered to wind up a standout amongst the most advanced cutting edge and focus of perfection in administration and instructing of Orthopedics in Northern India.

This was the primary division in India, which began PG courses in Orthopedics.
