As far back as it was set up in 1969. The School of Language, Literature and Culture Studies has developed in India and abroad as a noteworthy community for educating and research in Languages, Literatures and Cultures of India, Asia and Europe.

The Center for Korean Studies (CKS) is a unit of School of Language, Literature and Culture Studies (SLL&CS) at JNU. The Center is one of the greatest scholarly focuses of Korean Language, Literature and Culture Studies in Indian Subcontinent. It offers B.A., M.A., M.Phil and Ph.D. programs in Korean Language, Literature and Culture Studies. Korean Language was initially presented in the Center in 1976 as a Pre-Degree Diploma course.

It was redesigned into a full-time B.A.(Hons) program in 1995 and M.A. in 1998. The terminology of the Center was changed from 'Place for Japanese, and North East Asian Studies' (CJNEAS) to 'Community for Japanese, Korean and North East Asian Studies' (CJKNEAS) in 2005.

The Center began its M.Phil/Ph.D Program in July 2013. It turned into an autonomous centre known as "Centre for Korean Studies (CKS)" in August, 2013. Throughout the years it has developed into one of the biggest Centers of the SLL&CS in JNU. The Center likewise offers low maintenance declaration and confirmation courses in Mongolian Language.

B.A. Program
