KPCL AE Syllabus

I am planning to apply for the Karnataka Power Corporation Limited (KPCL) Assistant Engineer (AE) post and want details related to this. Can you please provide me Selection Process for this post so that I can apply also provide me KPCL AE & JE Mechanical Syllabus so I prepare well?

Karnataka Power Corporation Limited (KPCL), Bangalore conducts the recruitment for vacancies of Assistant Engineer, Junior Engineer, Chemists and Chemical Supervisor posts.

Age Limit

The candidates should have age below 35 years for Assistant & Junior Engineer posts and candidates age relaxation will be given as per the government rules.

Selection Process

The candidates selection will be done the basis of the performance in the Written Examination and Personal Interview.

KPCL AE & JE Mechanical Syllabus:

Production and operation management:


Basic of Plant layout, material handling, cost analysis, operation research, basic concepts of CADI CAM, production planning and control, material management and workstudies, inspections, quality control, inventory control.

Metal cutting and Machine tools:

Mechanics of machining, tool geometry, cutting force analysis, micro finishing machines-EDM, ECM and USM, single and multi point cutting tools, NC machines, jigs and fixtures. Measurements, limits, fits, tolerances, linear and angular measurements, comparators, lathes, drilling, shaping, planning, milling, gear cutting.

Applied Thermodynamics:


Basics of compressors and its working principles, Classification of I.C. Engines and its working, Design considerations of combustion chambers for S.L Engines, knocking, Rating of fuels, Lubrications, knowledge on Ignition systems.

Heat Transfer:

Heat conduction, free and forced convective heat transfer, Heat transfer Modes and exchangers, Methods of LMTD & NTU, thermal boundary layer, dimensionless parameters, heat Transfer through flat Pipes, turbulence, Radiative heat transfer with its shape and factors and Network System.

Fluid Mechanics and Machinery:

Properties of fluid, fluid static – pressure measurements, Kinematics, fluid dynamics – Euler’s, Bernoulli’s and Impulse momentum equations, compressible fluid flow, impact of jets, laminar and turbulent flows, flow and losses in pipes, bends, boundary layer theory, Hydraulic turbines and pumps.

Strength of Materials:

Simple stresses and strains, Hooke’s law, elastic constants, stress strain curves, compound bars, temperature stresses, stresses on oblique planes, shear force and bending moment and shear stress diagrams for beams, Mohr’s stress circle, deflections in beams, columns, about strain energy, torsion of circular shafts along with springs and principal stresses and strains.
