TP 302 EDUCATION FOR THE NEW MILLENNIUM

The course will deal with the changing factors of the Philosophical,
Sociological,

Cultural, Scientific, Technological, political, Economic and Bio Systems of the
country

and the world and their impact on the educational system and the needed
shifts from the

present to the future.

1. Ontology, epistamology and axiology of the traditional (idealistic, realistic

Pragmatic) modern (positivist) and post modern Philosophies;shif from the

traditional and modern paradigms to post modern paradigm of educational

functions.

2. Population, explosion, globalization, changes in social structure, cultural

invasions: empowerment of marginalized groups-shift in the location of
power

and privilege- implications for education.

3. Post industrialism- post positivism-technology inhuman activities-
technologising

education- technology in knowledge production and distribution, receptivism

to

constructivism in epistemology; rationalism to relativism in axiology;
Technozoic

to ecozoic vision of life and implications in education.

4. Industrial economy to knowledge economy- source of wealth, muscle,
machine

intellectual property right-patents –From uniformity to diversity in

productionIntellectual

capital.

5. Education for 21st century- Report of the International commission (1996)-

Educational Vision for 21st Century; education for peace, social justice and

diversity; for integral development; for quality of life.
