The eligibility requirements for MCA or Master of Computer Application Course offered by VTU or Visvesvaraya Technological University are as follows:

One needs to pass the Bachelor Degree examinations, with minimum 50% of the marks in the aggregate of all years of the degree examinations.

For candidates belonging to Schedule Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Category-I the aggregate percentage of marks of all the years of the qualifying exam is minimum 45%.

Provided that for admission one needs to pass Bachelor Degree with minimum 50% of marks with Mathematics or Statistics or Computer Science or Computer Programming or Computer Applications or Business Mathematics or Business Statistics as one of the optional or electives.

However, for candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Category I, the marks are minimum 45%.

For candidate who has studied and passed one of the subject specified in the first proviso in the Pre-University Course with 50% of marks in that subject is considered for admission. However, for candidates belonging to SC/ST and Category I, 45% of marks in that subject shall be eligible for Admission.

Admission is open for one who has passes the prescribed qualifying exam with minimum 50% of marks in the aggregate of all the years of degree exams. However, for candidates belonging to SC/ST and any other group classified by Government of Karnataka for such purpose from time to time, the above aggregate percentage is minimum 45%.

There is an Entrance Examination for admission.

Duration of the Course

The MCA Course is of three years duration extended over six semesters.

One is allowed a maximum duration of six years (12 semesters) to become eligible for the award of MCA degree, failing which needs to register once again as a fresh candidate.
