Industry Practice (IP) is a top course of 20 credits in the B. Tech Programme of NIIT University. It is an educational instrument seeking to link industry experience with university instruction.

In it one gets an opportunity to transfer learning from classroom to the workplace in industry in the 7th or 8th semester of B Tech Programme. During IP, one works on a live project of the organization under direct mentorship by industry professional.

The objectives of course are to meet the rapidly changing needs and challenges of a professional workplace; enable students to acquire learning by applying the knowledge and skills they possess, in unfamiliar, open-ended real life situations and bear an economic relevance to society.

Concept
IP, of five and a half months duration, is operated round the year, from July to December and January to June.
Since the students participate in and contribute to live projects, they are supported by a stipend.


Methodology
After a brief orientation, students are involved directly in addressing the predefined problems (generally of multidisciplinary nature) of the host organization.
Students are encouraged to work independently, under the technical guidance of a professional expert and the general guidance of the faculty.
Students are periodically required to defend the technical aspects of their work through written and oral presentations.
Stress is laid on the importance of teamwork, development of leadership qualities and the need for effective time management.
