Paper I

Education In The Emerging Indian Society

Time: Three Hours

Maximum: 100 Marks

Answer one question from Part A, ten from Part B and all questions from Part C.
Answers may be written in English or in Malayalam.

Part A

(1 x 20 = 20 marks)

I. Answer any one of the following questions :


1 What is meant by education for democracy? Discuss the special features of such education.

2 How does education bring about social change? Discuss the role of teacher in this respect.

3 "The naturalist school of philosophy is revolutionary with respect to curriculum, role of teacher and methods of instruction". Discuss.

Part B

(10 x 5 = 50 marks)

II. Answer any ten questions in about a page :


4 What are the measures suggested by Kothari Commission to achieve national integration?
5 Explain the role of education in human resource development.
6 Distinguish between Wastage and Stagnation. How can these be reduced?
7 What are the main tenets of pragmatism? Briefly state the main characteristics of the pragmatic curriculum.
8 How was Macaulay's minute detrimental to mass education in India?
9 Explain the need/or Vocationalisation of education in our State.
10 Why is secularism identified as an important value in education? How can it be developed in pupils?
11 'Education and philosophy are two sides of a coin'. Examine this statement.
12 What are the salient features of Buddhist education?
13 Education is a tri-polar process. Briefly explain this statement.
14 Critically examine the main features of Gandhiji's basic education.
15 Discuss how far education helps in the modernization of India.

(15 x 2 = 30 marks)

24. Write a short note on Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan.
25. Explain any two factors that hinder national integration.
26. What are the implications of universalization of primary education?
27. What is the difference between religious education and education on religion?
28. Explain the concept of Purushartha.
29. What are the characteristics of non-formal education?
30. Explain the functions of teachers' organizations in your State.
