National Institute of Technology Rourkela (NITR) is a publicly funded premier institute of higher learning for engineering, science and technology.

It is one of the 31 National Institutes of Technology in India and has been recognized as an Institute of National Importance by the National Institutes of Technology Act, 2007.


Ranking

NIT Rourkela was ranked 601-800 in the world by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings of 2018 and 126 in Asia.

In India it was ranked 15 among engineering colleges by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) in 2018 and 42 overall.

In 2018 NIRF ranked 18 NITs in top 100 in which NIT Rourkela secured 2nd position after NIT Trichy.

It is ranked 16 in the NIRF Rankings 2019 of Indian engineering universities.
