Union Public Services Commission (UPSC) conducts Civil Service Prelims and Mains examination for recruitment to IAS, IPS, IFS Group 'A' and some Group 'B' services.

Important Dates
Starting Date of Registration: 31 May 2014
Last Date for Registration Online applications(Part I and II): 30 June 2014
Date of Preliminary Examination: 24 August 2014
Mains Exam: (Tentative) December 2014

Test Duration & Pattern (Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2014)

Paper I : General Studies (GS) - 200 marks - 2 hours
Subject Area
Current events of national & international importance
History of India and Indian National Movement
Indian and World Geography - Phsical, Social, Economic Geography of India and the world
Indian Polity and Governance - Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Right Issues, etc.
Economic and Social Development - Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector initiatives, etc.
General issues on Environmentel Ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change - that do not require subject specialisation
General Science
Negative Marking: 1/3rd of marks allotted for every question

Paper II : Civil Service Aptitude Test (CSAT) - 200 marks - 2 hours

Comprehension
Interpersonal skills including communication skills
Logical Reasoning & Analytical Ability
Decision-making & Problem-solving
General Mental Ability
Basic Numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude, etc.) (CLass X level), Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency, etc. - Class X Level)
English Language Comprehension Skills (Class X Level)

Eligibility

Nationality

-For Indian Administrative Service, a candidate should be a citizen of India.
-For Indian Foreign Service and other services, a candidate should be one of the following:
A citizen of India
A subject of Nepal or Bhutan
A Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 01/01/1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India
A person of Indian origin who has migrated from other countries with the intention of permanently settling in India (detailed list of countries available on official website)

Age Limit
Age must be atleast 21 years and less than 31 years
The upper age limit is relaxed upto a maximum of :

SC / ST 5
Defense Services personnel 3
Domiciled in J&K during the period 01/01/1980 - 31/12/1989 5
OBC 3

Educational Qualification
- Must hold Graduation degree in any stream from any of the recognized University
- Final Year candidates or result awaiting candidates can also apply
- If you hold any professional and technical qualification from Government recognised or equivalent can also apply.
-Candidate who has passed the M.B.B.S. or any other Medical Examination can also apply.
