Occupational therapists are licensed rehabilitation care professionals who work to restore or improve physical abilities, promote behavioral changes, adapt surroundings, and teach new skills; the goal is to have the individual achieve her or his best physical and/or mental functioning in daily life tasks.

Occupational Therapy Requirements

Any use of the titles occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant within New York State requires licensure as an occupational therapist or as an occupational therapy assistant.

To be licensed as an occupational therapist or as an occupational therapy assistant in New York State you must:

Be of good moral character

Be at least 21 years of age for licensure as an occupational therapist

Be at least 18 years of age for licensure as an occupational therapy assistant

Fees

The fee for licensure as an occupational therapist is $294.

The fee for a limited permit as an occupational therapist is $70.

The fee for licensure as an occupational therapy assistant is $147.

The fee for a limited permit as an occupational therapy assistant is $70.

Fees are subject to change.

The fee due is the one in law when your application is received (unless fees are increased retroactively).

You will be billed for the difference if fees have been increased.
