The State AIDS Project Cell was shaped in January 1993 in Tamil Nadu. Tamil Nadu State Aids Control Society (TANSACS) was the primary enlisted Society in India for HIV/AIDS control and counteractive action enrolled in 1994 as an order of National AIDS Control Organization (NACO), New Delhi.

The Principal Secretary to Government, Health and Family Welfare Department, is the President of the Society and a Senior I.A.S. Officer is the Member Secretary and Project Director. In 1986 the principal HIV case in India was identified in Madras Medical College, Chennai. The sentinel reconnaissance information has been demonstrating an enduring decrease among antenatal facility participants since 2001. A sum of 2.13 lakh people have tried constructive for HIV in the state.

TANSACS trusts that Tamil Nadu would have the capacity to stop and turn around the pestilence of HIV soon, and set itself as a model state in India and in the entire world.

TANSACS' establishment is based on a quality care-and-emotionally supportive network for people living with HIV/AIDS. By encouraging close cooperation with Non Governmental Organizations, ladies' self improvement gatherings, Community Based Organizations, constructive individuals' systems and different National and International Donor Agencies, TANSACS continually works towards change of openness and responsibility of the administrations, successful counteractive action techniques and giving avoidance to-administer to HIV/AIDS influenced individuals.
