The three branches of the IAF have further sub-streams:

(a) Flying Branch: Fighter pilots, Transport pilots, Helicopter pilots - You would be working as any of these pilots both during peace and war.

After 10+2

There is a golden opportunity for young boys having 10+2 (Science) qualification with Physics and Maths to join as an officer in the Indian Air Force by appearing for the National Defence Academy (NDA) and Naval Academy (NA) Examination conducted by the UPSC conducted twice a year in all major cities throughout India.

After Graduation

Both men and women, who are graduates, can enter the Air Force as officers through this route.

Candidates short-listed after the initial selection procedure (such as the AFCAT exam,). Thereafter, they are commissioned as officers and posted at any of the Air Force Stations.

After Engineering

The Indian Air Force calls for enthusiastic and committed engineers to become a part of the Indian Air Force team..

After Post Graduation

Men and women who are post-graduates also have opportunities to explore in the Indian Air Force, especially for Ground Duty.

Salary & allowances for Indian Air Force officer jobs

You start earning even before become an Air Force officer, during your last year of training - a monthly stipend of Rs. 21,000.

The salary break-up of commissioned Indian Air Force officers (per month):

Pay in Pay Band (same for flying, technical, ground duty): Rs. 15,600
Grade Pay: Rs. 5,400

Military Service Pay: Rs. 6,000

Dearness Allowance @ 107 percent: Rs. 28,890

Kit Maintenance Allowance: Rs. 500

Transport Allowance: Rs. 3,200 + DA ( in major cities) or Rs. 1,600 + DA ( in other cities)

Additional allowance:

Flying Allowance: Rs. 11,250 per month for Flying Branch officers
Technical Allowance: Rs. 2,500 per month for Technical Branch officers

In short, the monthly pay package of the officers would be:

Flying branch: Rs. 74,264

Technical branch: Rs. 65,514

Ground duty branch: Rs. 63,014
