Mr. Rana Som, MA (Economics) serves as the Chairman and Managing Director of NMDC Limited, a head Government of India Enterprise under the Ministry of Steel. Mr. Som has begun his famous profession path in 1972 as a Probationary Officer in Calcutta Port Trust.

He has throughout the years developed as an undeniable HR Professional. Amid his relationship with a few businesses, he has amassed extraordinary quality with strength to be a useful and visionary pioneer.

All the while, he has shown commendable initiative aptitudes in the regions of authoritative rebuilding and survival. He filled in as a Functional Director, Chairman and Managing Director of Hindustan Copper Limited and furthermore the Director of Human Resources of State Trading Corporation of India Ltd., preceding his joining NMDC in November, 2007.

He is generally known as the Chief Architect of Hindustan Copper Limited's restoration. His steady endeavors combined with careful arranging, forceful advertising methodologies and re-building abilities made the recovery effective and furthermore cleared route for its way towards thriving.

As far back as his joining NMDC, he has saved no endeavors in fortifying the establishment of the Company. He fills in as the Chairman of NMDC-CMDC Limited and J&K Mineral Development Corporation Limited. He fills in as a Director of Heavy Engineering Corporation Ltd. He filled in as a Director of Essar Steel India Limited since September 3, 2012 until March 31, 2016.

He has a splendid scholarly profession in Economics and Personnel Management. He was granted the Life Time Achievement Award for his exceptional commitment for the "General Development of Indian Non-Coal Mining Industry through Effective Leadership and Innovation''. Mr. Som holds a PG Diploma in Personnel Management.
