Re: Sajjangad MTDC

Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation MTDC, is a body of the Government of Maharashtra responsible for development of tourism in the Indian state of Maharashtra. It has been established under the Companies Act, 1956.

Sajjangad-

Sajjangad in the district of Satara not only occupies a place of historical importance but tops the list when it comes to the devotees of Samarth Ramdas Swami, one of the most prominent spiritual mentors in this part of India.

It was here that he stayed for a long time as also breathed his last.

It is essentially known for its hill forts, a long coastline with wonderful beaches and places of pilgrimage.

Much before it began to attract pilgrims with their inherent faith in Samarth Ramdas Swami, Sajjangad

Thoseghar Falls

This is a popular scenic spot located about 20 kilometers from Satara city.
You will find here a series of waterfalls, one of which is 500 meters in height.
Most tourists come here during the rainy season when the waterfalls become thunderous.
The area surrounding the falls is quiet and there is also a lake nearby.

Kaas Plateau

The Kaas Plateau is about 22 kilometers from Satara city.
Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it comes alive with a wide variety of flowers - more than 850 different species - during the months of August and September.

Aundh Museum

Located in Satara district, the Shri Bhavani Museum at Aundh was established by late Shrimant Balasaheb Maharaj Pantpratinidhi who was an artist.
The museum has a rich collection of articles made out of sandalwood and ivory along with Indian miniature paintings and valuable ornaments and diamonds.

Ajinkyatara Fort

Located at a height of 3,300 feet, it provides a commanding and spectacular view of the entire Satara city.
The fort was the property of the Marathas after it was won in a battle in 1708 by Shahu Maharaj and remained with them till 1818.

Ancient Temple

Off the road, at the foot of Sajjangad, close to the village Parali is a 12th century Virupaksha temple.
It has a neglected air about it but you will be surprised by the beautifully carved pillars and some erotic sculptures on the outer walls.

Visit the ‘Samarth Darshan’

Half way up the fort, is a beautiful museum dedicated to Saint Ramdas Swami.
The museum has tableaus depicting scenes from his life.
There is also a complete wing dedicated to the 11 ‘Marutis’ or ‘Hanumans’ that inspired him.
