The Science and Technology Department of the Government of West Bengal was set up in 1988. The West Bengal State Council of Science and Technology, an independent body, enlisted under the Societies Registration Act and under the authoritative control of this Department, was built up on an all-India design, to encourage the operationalising of the Department's order, with contributions from prominent Experts in different particular logical and innovation related circles. It has spread its exercises complex, with the interest of the logical and scholastic group.

In the traverse of two decades this Department has crossed far in advancing logical exercises in different fields and encouraged essential research and inventive projects through rumored Universities, Research Institutes, Colleges and Civil Society.

Mandate

To identify the need based problems of the state and to implement projects for benefit of the state.

Advancement of scientific activities for fulfillment of socio-economic needs of the state with priority on Climate Change, Agriculture and Industrial Development.

Utilizing Remote Sensing Technology in Planning and Development.

Advancement and awareness of Science and Technology for the benefit of the Common People.
