Swami Vivekanand University was established by the Act of Madhya Pradesh State Legislature and notified in its Official Gazette as The Madhya Pradesh Niji Vishwavidyalaya (Staphana Avam Sanchalan) Tritiya Sansodhan Adhiniyam after obtaining the assent of his Excellency the Governor of Madhya Pradesh who is the Visitor of the University.

This University is approved by University Grant Commission (UGC), All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE), Bar Council of India (BCI), Indian Nursing Council (INC).
