The Department of Biosciences had its humble begining in V.P.Mahavidyalaya, Vallabh Vidyanagar, as Department of Botany in the year 1958.

The past premises found near the University Administrative Offices, were gained in the year 1972 and initiated by Prof. M .S . Swaminathan, the then Director General, ICAR, New Delhi.

Since the origin of the Department, the author individuals from its showing workforce and their successors worked determinedly to set up exclusive expectations of instructing and research that conveyed acknowledgment to the division at national and worldwide levels. In the year 1977, the University Grants Commission, New Delhi gave liberal assets to the office for growing (its extension) programs and later the division was re-initiated as (this brought about re-dedicating the office as) Department of Biosciences.
