The Pre-Interview Test (PIT) i.e. composed test and Personal Interview (PI)- 2016-18 cluster for all the shortlisted possibility for every one of the projects offered from Mumbai, Tuljapur, IMHST Chennai, MHAT-Calicut, G-Set Ranchi, grounds will be held midway in Mumbai Campus and Candidates shortlisted for the various programes in Guwahati and Hyderabad their PIT and PI will be held in their individual grounds. The PIT will be for 50 Marks and the time alloted is upto 45 minutes. The sample questions for The Pre Interview Test are as follows: Date: Instructions: 1) Answer both the questions. 2) Candidates should strictly follow the word limit. Write an essay on ANY ONE of the following topics in about 500-800 words.(30 marks) 1. Caste Politics in Cities: Absence or Subtle Presence? 2. Street Living Children: Issues and Interventions Read the following narrative and answer the four questions (in about 100 words each) as given below: (20 marks) Samina Begum is an old widow living near Jama Masjid in Delhi. Abandoned by her children and extended family she lives in a makeshift settlement and has no source of steady income. She did try to make a living by doing odd jobs like washing and cooking in the neighbouring houses, but most of the people living in the nearby localities are not in a position to employ domestic help. A newspaper reporter came to the makeshift settlement one day to gather data on the plight of old Muslim widows. Samina was one of the persons who he interviewed. She told him that her in-laws had thrown her out of the house immediately after her husband died and sent police at the time of her iddat (the time period during which she cannot meet any male). She said, " They filed four suits against me, may be because they thought that I would ask for a share in their property." Asked about her rights she says, "I'm not a woman who would fight back, I prefer to remain silent" and then she confided, "Who has money to spend on legal battles." She further added, "We remain hungry the whole day and take a cup of tea and meal just once in a day "… aur guzaaraa ho jaataa hai."(Somehow we survive on it). The reporter interviewed few other widows and went away. He then wrote his article, the last sentence of which read thus: ‘Caught up in the vicious circle of poverty, illiteracy, and unemployment it's the story of about 400 Muslim widows who sometimes do not even get the bare necessities of life. Each widow has a heart-rending tale to reveal’. 3. Write a short note highlighting the social problems emerging from the case above. 4. Amongst these, which are the two key problems according to you and why? 5. Have you seen or read about such cases? How are they similar or different from the above case? 6. How would you help or contribute in a situation like this and why? 7. Discuss the challenges that single parent families face in a city. OR Examine the impact of information technology on families in the Indian 8. Children growing up in the same family may have differential life experiences' - Comment within the context of the Indian family and Indian society. 9. What are the different types of child abuse? Give specific illustrations of some of the significant developments to address child abuse in India. 10. Looking at the changing scenario of juvenile crime, should the age of the juveniles be reduced from 18 years to 16 years? |
