Persuaded by the longing to give training at the doorsteps of the learners, University of Jammu set up the Directorate of Distance Education, (then known as Institute of Correspondence Education) in March, 1976. The DDE is putting forth various postgraduate and college classes.

Other than conventional courses, it is giving proficient courses, for example, Master of Education, Bachelor of Education and Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration. In the present session, it has dispatched Postgraduate course in Fisheries. This is a vocation arranged course, the first of its kind through separation method of instruction in the nation.
