With the arrangement of Dr. S.P. Appasamy and Dr. T. Prabhakar Reddy as Professor and Reader separately, the Department of English at the University of Madras was built up in 1969 with the order to direct between university week by week addresses on specific points other than managing research.

The skyline of push regions in Literary Studies extended from mid-1990s to incorporate New Historicism and Cultural Materialism, Translation, Postmodernism, Feminism, Deconstruction among artistic hypotheses at the M.Phil level.

Worldwide Linkages

In the 1970s and 80s, researchers from abroad every so often went to the Department under the aegis of the US Educational Foundation in India (USEFI) or the British Council and gave open addresses.
