Geologist Exam is conducted by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for recruitment to the following two categories of posts: Category I -Geologist (Junior), Group A -Assistant Geologist, Group B in the Geological Survey of India. Category II -Jr. Hydrogeologist, Group A -Assistant Hydrogeologist, Group B in the Central Ground Water Board (CGWB) at selected centres in India. Eligibility Criteria Nationality: A candidate must be either : -a citizen of India, or -a subject of Nepal, or -a subject of Bhutan, or -a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before the 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India. Or -a person of India origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka or East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania; Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia or from Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India. Academic Qualification: Candidates must possess one of the following educational qualification: -Master's degree in Geology or Applied Geology or Marine Geology or Mineral Exploration or Hydrology from a recognized University or -Diploma of Associate ship in Applied Geology of Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad or -Master's degree in Mineral exploration from a recognized university (for posts in GSI); or -Master's degree in Hydrogeology from a recgonized university (for posts in CGWB) Age Limit: A candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 32 years Exam Pattern Geologists Examination comprising of the following given papers and Personality test of such candidates who qualify on the basis of the written examination Pattern of the Test Part I - Written examination will consists of the following papers of conventional type:- Written examination: Subjects of written examination and marks allotted to each is as follows S.No. Subject Maximum marks 1 General English 100 2 Geology Paper I 200 3 Geology Paper II 200 4 Geology Paper III 200 5 Hydrogeology 200 Part II-Personality Test /Interview Candidates who are short listed in the Written Examination are required to appear for an Interview which carry a maximum of 200 marks.
