The Department of Art at William Carey University is here to help you develop and prepare for your life as an artist. They offer a framework of courses, focused study, internships, and exhibition experiences, designed to guide you toward achieving excellence in your creative pursuits. Their students have been consistently represented in the juried Mississippi Collegiate Art Competition for their work. William Carey University offers degree programs leading to the Bachelor of Fine Arts or Bachelor of Arts. Students in the Department of Art may concentrate in Painting, Graphic Design, Art Education, or a combination of studio concentrations. Programs- The Hattiesburg campus offers a major and minor in art with programs leading to a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. All B.F.A. and B.A. art students must maintain a portfolio according to departmental guidelines. B.A. and B.F.A. degrees combine three parts: art core courses, B.A. and B.F.A. core courses, and courses in the major concentration. Students may choose from the following concentrations: painting, graphic design, combined studio, art education. Art core courses required for the B.F.A. and the B.A. degrees: The following art core courses are required for the B.F.A. and the B.A. degrees: Art History -12 hours (including Art History I and II) Drawing -12 hours (B.F.A.), 6 hours (B.A.) 2D/3D Design - 6 hours Computer Graphics - 3 hours Painting - 3 hours Printmaking (ART351, 352, or 451) - 3 hours Photography - 3 hours Senior Seminar - 3 hours Total 45 hours for the B.F.A., 39 hours for the B.A. Concentrations- Art Major Concentrations Drawing-Painting 30 hours in painting (studio) Graphic Design 30 hours in graphic design Combined Studio 36 hours (18 hours in two studio areas of Drawing, Painting, or Graphic Design) Art Electives Balance of required courses Senior Exhibition Graduating B.F.A. students must participate in a B.F.A. exhibition in the gallery during their senior year Contact – William Carey University 498 Tuscan Avenue Hattiesburg, Mississippi 39401 Phone: (601) 318-6051 Main Fax: (601) 318-6454 |
