The deaprtment of economics was established in 1949, it is one of the oldest teaching departments of the University. Planning Commission santioned Planning Commission Chair to the department in since 1996.
University of Rajasthan (RU), Jaipur was established in 1947 as the University of Rajputana. In the year 1956, the Rajputana University was renamed as the University of Rajasthan, keeping intact its enveloping jurisdiction.
