Deputy Collector is a very powerful officer with revenue department in a state in India.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Collection of county taxes, including balancing those funds
Assisting taxpayers with tax needs, both on the phone and in person.
Processing mail, including both payments and inquiries
Scanning checks collected by this office
Preparing the bank deposits as required
Maintain daily ledger in computer and balance at end of month
Collection of insufficient checks including voiding of receipts and adjusting books if not collected
All other jobs as assigned by supervisor

Duties :
As collector
Land assessment
Land acquisition
Collection of land revenue
Collection of income tax dues, excise duties, irrigation dues etc.
Distribution of agricultural loans

As District Magistrate:
maintenance of law and order
supervision of the police and jails
supervision of subordinate Executive magistracy
hearing cases under the preventive section of the Criminal Procedure Code
supervision of jails and certification of execution of capital sentences

As Crisis Administrator
Disaster management during natural calamities such as floods, famines or epidemics
Crisis management during riots or external aggression

As Development Officer
Ex-officio chairman of the District Rural Development Agency, which carries out various developmental activities
Chairman of the District Bankers Coordination Committee
Head of the District Industries Centre

Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Knowledge of business English, spelling, and punctuation
Ability to operate a variety of office machines with accuracy
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in written form
Knowledge of the overall Collector office procedures and policies and the accountability of financial transactions
