IIT Madras 6 Lakh House

I got news that IIT Madras developed 6 Lakh Houses for the alumni and faculty members. Is that news correct or a fake news? Give me some official videos and pictures from NDTV. I am also alumni member of IITM. Is there any official website to book House / Flat developed by IIT Madras? Give me any contact number where can I get information about these 6 Lakh Houses?

Re: IIT Madras 6 Lakh House

Indian Institute of Technology Madras is a public engineering and research institute located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu and is one of India's most prestigious universities.

About IIT Madras 6 Lakh House project:

This house is built using an Australian technology which is made with a pre-fabricated product (reinforced Gypsum which is available in India at low cost).

The construction can be done within 30 days(1 month which is amazing!)

This low cost housing is quick and especially important since the property price in Chennai has become quite high. This might provide some relief in terms of construction cost.

Advantages:
Rapid pace of construction
0 usage of Iron, Steel, Concrete, bricks and sand used normally.
No need to plaster gypsum.
Lighter slabs which reduce the cost of construction.
Increase in carpet area since the width of gypsum walls is lesser than concrete walls(8-9 inches)
environment friendly(might not be important to everyone but seems good).

Instead of bricks, sand, cement and steel, the two-storey flat is made of gypsum — a waste by-product of the fertiliser industry — and reinforced with glass fibre.

This housing technology costs just Rs. 1,250 per square foot, compared to Rs. 1,500 for concrete structures.

The model building is made of panels, known as glass fibre-reinforced gypsum (GFRG). These panels are made of gypsum, combined with special additives and glass fibres.
