Gauhati University id having a English department for to provides various courses. The English Department was set up in 1955.

The English Department offers an MA in English Literature and MPhil and PhD courses in all literatures written in English as well as in broader cultural representations.

The Department is now keenly exploring newer areas, especially those that articulate its location.
