This Department of Geography, Jammu University is the only department in the country which imparts education, training and research in Glaciology.

Thrust areas of research in the department or Gromorphology (FLUVIAL and GLACIAL), Geoecology, Biomass, Assessment, Biography, Geography of environment, Agricultural Geography, Pollution and Urban Geogaphy, Regional planning and Development.
