The National Institute of Nutrition (NIN) is one of the premier permanent research Institutes of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), a self-governing body under the aegis of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. The historical backdrop of this Institute traverses more than eight decades. The Institute has begun as "Beri-beri unit" in 1918 as a one-room lab in Coonoor, Tamil Nadu.
