Indian Engineering Services (IES)/Engineering Services Examination (ESE) is a national level recruitment exam organised by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) to recruit candidates for engineering positions for the various department working under the Government of India.

It is conducted for four branches of engineering namely:
Civil Engineering
Mechanical Engineering
Electrical Engineering
Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering

Eligibility

Nationality/Category

One should be a citizen of India, a subject of Nepal, a subject of Bhutan, a Tibetan Refugee who is permanently staying in India until January 01, 1962

Indian origin individual from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka or East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia or from Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India


Minimum Educational Qualifications

Engineering degree holder from a University recognized under the Act of the Central or State Legislature in India.

An engineering degree holder from any other Educational Institutions set up under an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as Universities u/s 3 of the UGC Act, 1956.

Engineering students who have cleared Sections A & B of the Institution Examinations of the Institution of Engineers (India).

One who has secured an Engineering degree or diploma from a foreign University or College and Institution recognized by the Government of India

One who has cleared the Graduate Membership Exam of the Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (India)

One who has cleared the Associate Membership Exam Parts II and III/Sections A and B of the Aeronautical Society of India

One who has cleared Graduate Membership Examination of the Institution of Electronics and Radio Engineers, London held after November 1959.


Age Limit

One must have completed an age of 21 years and must not have attained an age of 30 years on August 1, 2020.
