The International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS) fills in as a provincial Institute for Training and Research in Population Studies for the ESCAP locale. It was set up in Mumbai in July 1956, till July 1970 it was known as the Demographic Training and Research Center (DTRC) and till 1985 it was known as the International Institute for Population Studies (IIPS). The Institute was re-assigned to its present title in 1985 to encourage the extension of its scholastic exercises and was pronounced as a 'Regarded University' in August 19, 1985 under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. The acknowledgment has encouraged the honor of perceived degrees by the Institute itself and made ready for further development of the Institute as a scholastic establishment. Goals of the Institute To prepare people from India and different nations in demography and related fields, including statistic parts of family arranging. To attempt logical research on populace issues which are of extraordinary significance to India and different nations in the ESCAP area. To gather, arrange and disperse statistic data about the number of inhabitants in India and different nations of the world. To give administrations of research, assessment, preparing, discussion and direction identified with statistic issues to government divisions, open partnerships or private foundations as considered alluring in compatibility of the goal of the Society. To attempt, sort out and encourage consider courses, meetings, addresses, classes and so forth to advance the aforementioned targets. To attempt and accommodate production of diaries and research papers, books and to build up, keep up libraries and data benefit in assistance of the goals of the Society. Research The Institute had finished 7 Research Projects amid 2008-2009. There are 19 on-going examination ventures, which were started amid the year 2008–2009 and are in various phases of fulfillment. Additionally, 3 new research ventures are being taken up amid the year 2008-2009. There are 11 on-going examination extend subsidized by the outside offices. The most noticeable among them are the National Family Health Survey (NFHS), District Level Household Survey under Reproductive and Child Health extend (DLHS-RCH) and YOUTH in India. Phil. as well as Ph.D. in Population Studies. The MPS teaching is conducted both as regular, classroom course as well as through distance learning.
