Objectives of guidance and counselling in schools
What is the main objective of guidance and counselling in schools and what the things students can understand from guidance and counseling? The main objective of counseling is to bring about a voluntary change in the client and guidance and counselling in schools impact student outcomes. Guidance and counselling in schools help students to develop theirself in all areas as in academic development, career development and personal/social development. Guidance and counselling in schools can help the student in different areas as they understand the requirement for academic, personal and career development. As they can understand: Academic Achievement: Understand the expectations of the educational environment. Understand the importance of individual effort, hard work, and persistence Use appropriate communication skills to ask for help when needed. Work cooperatively in small and large groups towards a common goal. Demonstrate individual initiative and a positive interest in learning Personal and Social Development: Demonstrate good manners and respectful behavior towards others Promote developmental interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with peers, adults and community around them. Exhibit the principles of character, including honesty, trustworthiness, respect for the rights and property of others, respect for rules and laws, taking responsibility for one’s own actions, fairness, caring, and citizenship. Understand decision making and problem solving strategies. Identify the emotional and physical dangers of substance use and abuse Use strategies for managing peer pressure Workplace Readiness/Career Awareness: Understand the concept of job and career. Understand the relationship of individual effort, hard work and persistence to achievement. Link their academic strengths and high school courses to post-secondary education/training.
